Best Time to Visit

October to March is the best time to visit Haryana owing to the favourable weather conditions during this time. It starts getting colder and pleasant around this time making it a perfect time for venturing out for sightseeing.

Cuisine

Some of the most mouth-watering delicacies that the state has are Rajma Chawal, Aloo-Tikki, Saag Gosht, Dahi Bhalle, Kheer and are enjoyed by people all over. The other traditional preparations include Bajra Ki Khichri (salty, wholesome millet porridge), ‘Karhi’ (chickpea flour beaten in spiced yoghurt), Bathua-Ka-Raita (green leafy Bathua in delicately spiced yoghurt). Singri ki sabzi, Methi Gajar, Bathua Raita, Kadai Hara cholia, Rabri, Gajar ka Halwa, Laddu are also some of the preparations that represent the richness, elaborate cooking styles and distinct flavours of Haryana that one must indulge in while in the state.

Shopping

Famous for fine woodcarvings, brass sculptures, furniture and other artefacts, Haryana promotes the dying industry of wooden carpentry and small-scale enterprises. You can buy designer wooden frames, figurines and statues at affordable prices before leaving the state.

Language

Spoken languages of Haryana are Hindi, Haryanvi and Punjabi. Haryanvi is considered as a dialect of Hindi. Haryanvi dialect varies region wise.

Major Tourist Destinations

1. GURGAON

Easily accessible from Delhi and Noida, Gurgaon is fast becoming a popular travel destination among holidaymakers. Starting from natural treasures to a flourishing lifestyle and a vibrant nightlife, Gurgaon has everything you could need. The malls, buildings and shopping complex of Gurgaon make this city equivalent to other European cities. However, Gurgaon holds some traditional tourist places like Sultanpur Sanctuary and Sohna Lake. Sheetla Mata Temple, Shiv Temple and Sheesh Mahal are the religious places for Hindus.

2. KURUKSHETRA

Kurukshetra is Haryana’s one of the most visiting tourist destinations due to historical significance, religious importance and nature’s beauty. The visitors can visit to Kurukshetra, the historical and religious importance of place where Mahabharata occurred.

3. PANCHKULA

The Panchkula district of Haryana is the most attractive tourist destination of Haryana. Panchkula consists of five towns Pinjore, Kalka, Barwala, Morni and Raipur Rani. Morni is the only Hill station in Haryana while Kalka is one of the most significant religious places for Hindus and a major tourist destination at the Delhi-Shimla route circuit. PINJOR is worth beautiful town where you can watch the lush green and beautiful Mughal Garden (also known as the Yadavindra Gardens). Several endangered and rare species like black buck, Tigers, panthers, white foxes, mongooses, jackals and wild dogs can be found in the forest range of Panchkula. The religious places of Panchkula are SHRI BALAJI TEMPLE, SHARDA MATA (MAA SARASVATI DEVI) TEMPLE CHOTTA TRILOK PUR, RAIPUR RANI, AND NADA SAHIB etc.

4. PANIPAT

Panipat, the land of three most historical and significant battles of medieval India, is a major tourist place of Haryana, where you can watch the graves of Ibhahim Lodhi and Hemu, who lost the battles and shot dead. Moreover, PANIPAT MUSEUM is the most attractive site to visit, where you can see a huge collection of historical significance. KABULI BAGH, KALA AMB, SALAR GUNJ GATE etc. are other important tourist places to visit. The religious importance sites in Panipat are DEVI TEMPLE, SHRI RAM SHARNAM TEMPLE AND TOMB OF BU-ALI SHAH KALANDAR etc.

5. NARNAUL

The historic town of Narnaul in Mahendergarh district of Haryana claims to be one of the important seats of the Dwapar yuga of Mahabharata. Claiming a hybrid architectural influences of Mughals, Rajputs, Persians and the British, Narnaul is famous for its many tombs and historical sites that date back to the Mughal and Rajput era, followed by the rule of Prince of Jaipur and Patiala. Also famous as Birbal’s birthplace who was one of the Ministers or Navratnas in Akbar’s Court, Narnaul is the birthplace of Sher Shah Suri, the Afghan king who shook the foundations of the Mughal dynasty. The famous Ayurvedic blend, Chyavanprasha was first made in Doshi, a sacred hill just 8 km away from this town.

6. FARIDABAD

Faridabad is the largest district of Haryana and one of the most visiting destinations of state. Most of the visitors reach here to enjoy the Surajkund handi-crafts fair held on every 1 to 15 February. The major tourist places of Faridabad are: BADHKAL LAKE, BABA FARID’S TOMB, RAJA NAHAR SINGH PALACE, CAMP DHAUJ LAKE, SURAJKUND, TOWN PARK AND GOLF COURSE etc.

7. KARNAL

Karnal, a city in the Indian state of Haryana, boasts of a history reaching into the period of the Mahabharata. Nestled in the banks of the sacred Yamuna River, Karnal today is popularly called the ‘Rice Bowl of India’ for its vast rice fields.

Located in the National Capital Region, Karnal has limited tourist attractions to see, the most popular of which is Karna Lake. It is believed that it was here that the mythological hero Karna, after whom the city is named, gave alms to the poor. Karnal is home to some world-class institutes of research and development like the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) and Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR). The best way to explore this town is to take a leisurely walk, gorging on the local food.

8. ROHTAK

Rohtak is a city with a long-standing history that is preserved in its abandoned yet fostered ruins. Rohtak has some of the most beautiful lakes like the BHINDAWAS LAKE and the TILYAR LAKE. Tilyar lake complex houses a zoo in its vast compound which makes up for a great outing. Rohtak also entertains the fun-loving folks too with the SPLASH WATER PARK which promises of all the fun time one can have. Rohtak is not so prominent in India’s Tourism, but the celebration and heritage of Rohtak are waiting to be uncovered to the world of travellers.

9. NUH

Nuh, located in the Mewat district of Haryana is a modest home to several historical structures and ruins and is a day trip into a bit of history. With carvings on the red sandstone and grey quartzite, the architectural marvel of the place can be seen in its SHAKING MONUMENT, THE CHUI MAI POND OR TANK, the town of Sheikh Musa, KOTLA and in the religious sites.
