The hilly state of Tripura is located in north-eastern India and is bordered on three sides by Bangladesh. Winter is the best season to visit this state since the temperature is pleasant and ideal for sightseeing in the towns and to witness the beautiful natural wonders. It is best to avoid the monsoon since this state receives heavy rainfall.
Tripura offers a range of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, though for non vegetarians the options are a little more. While in Tripura tourists must try Mui Borok which is their traditional cuisine and is delicious. Apart from this there is strong Bangladesh influence because of their proximity to the country and Chinese cuisine is also extremely popular. There is particular chutney made of dry fish that is highly recommended and must be tried along with dal and rice.
Bamboo and cane works are very popular here and are beautiful. There are table mats, room dividers, table lamps, floor mats and furniture made of cane and they make a great choice for gifting as well as for decorating one’s own house. Tourists can take these back as souvenirs of their trip. Apart from cane and bamboo items woven tribal shawls and mekhla are very popular here.
The official language of Tripura is Bengali, Kokborok and English. Among them, Bengali is the major used language having 70.2 percent of the population.
1. AGARTALA
Agartala is the capital of Tripura, is one of the largest cities in that state and one of the most popular places to visit in Tripura. The place is famous for its terrains which are full of green pastures, hills and beautiful valleys. The main attraction of this place is Ujjayanta Palace. You would require to plan at least two days if you wish to cover Agartala in detail. Ujjayanta Palace is a royal house built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1899. The palace is known for its architecture which has three domes, tiled floors, carved wooden ceiling, and beautifully crafted doors. Also, there is a Mughal style garden on the outside of this royal palace.

2. KAILASHAHAR
A well liked tourist town near Agartala, Kailashahar was once the capital of Tripuran kingdom and evidence of its royal history can be still seen here. It is a town which gets a major part of it identity from a royal and significant past, the tints of which can still be seen around the town. Kailashahar is not only famous for its temples but is also as a popular trekking destination. The 16 tea estates are also a must see. 3. UNAKOTI – TIMELESS RUINS
Translating to ‘one less than a crore’ in English, Unakoti is one of the most intriguing places to see in Tripura for those who seek something unique. This place is sitting near the Kailasahwar town and is home to hundreds and thousands of massive structures that are rock-cut and spellbinding. This spot is home to numerous scattered ruins of the temples, making Unakoti a unique place with an ancient aura encircling the atmosphere.
4. BISON (RAJBARI) NATIONAL PARK
Situated in the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, the Rajbari National Park is one of India’s well-known National Parks. It is located at Tripura, India. The park is spread over a whopping 31.63 square kilometres. Visiting this park would prove to be a visual treat to its visitors.
The park is very famous across the country owing to its picturesque surroundings. It is one of the many places in India where one could witness Mother Nature at her best. 5. JAMPUI HILLS – SCENIC VIEWS
Jampui Hills are located in the Northern part of Tripura and is one of the most famous places to visit in Tripura. These hills are located at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The place is blessed with beautiful valleys and splendid sceneries and is a land of juicy oranges. The top attractions of this city are Ujjayanta Palace, Sepahijala Wildlife sanctuary, and Chittagong Hills. The best time to visit Jampui Hills is in November. The sanctuary is full of a great variety of wildlife species and also has a research center. You can find as many as 150 different species of birds in this sanctuary.
6. NEERMAHAL
‘The Lake Palace of Tripura’ or the Neermahal is the largest palace of its kind in the entire Indian Subcontinent. This architectural beauty rightly derives its name from its location, i.e. the middle of Rudrasagar Lake. It is one of the two water palaces that our country has. The former royal palace is an outcome of King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur’s great perspective. It was the summer palace for the king and his family. Even today, it’s highly ornated structure showcases the glorious past.
