Gangasagar is a place of Hindu pilgrimage. Every year on the day of Makar Sankranti (14 January), hundreds of thousands of Hindus gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of the river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer prayers (puja) in the Kapil Muni Temple.
On arrival at Kolkata Airport/ Howrah Railway station, transfer to your already booked hotel. The evening is free at leisure for shopping. An overnight stay at the hotel in Kolkata
After breakfast in the morning, we will leave for the complete day city tour of Kolkata and visit HIGH COURT BUILDING, OLDEST CATHOLIC CHURCH IN KOLKATA, HOWRAH BRIDGE, VIDYASAGAR SETU, NATIONAL MUSEUM, VICTORIA MEMORIAL, KALIGHAT KALI TEMPLE, ETC. Thereafter, we will return back to the hotel for dinner followed by an overnight stay.
HIGH COURT: Oldest High Court in India with Jurisdiction of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar. The Architecture of Building is a copy of Cloth Hall Ypres Belgium.
HOWRAH BRIDGE: Howrah Bridge is the second name of Kolkata and remains the face of the City of Joy. Howrah Bridge is a sixth-longest suspension cantilever bridge in the world.
VIVEKANANDA SETU: Vivekananda Setu connects Bally (Howrah) to Dakshineswar (Kolkata) it is one of the main links connecting Howrah to Its Twin city Kolkata. This bridge is also known as Bally Bridge and Willingdon Bridge.
PAULS CATHEDRAL CHURCH: founded in 1839 and completed in 1847. Currently, this church is the seat of Diocese of Kolkata. This church was living example of Gothic Architecture and dedicated to Paul the Apostle.
VICTORIA MEMORIAL HALL: In memory of Queen Victoria a large marble building built during 1906 to 1921 initially proposed by Lord Curzon.
KALIGHAT KALI TEMPLE: Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kalighat regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of India, where the various parts of Sati’s body are said to have fallen, in the course of Shiva’s Rudra Tandava. Kalighat represents the site where the toes of the right foot of Dakshayani or Sati fell. Kalighat is also associated with the worship offered to Kali by a Dasanami Monk by name Chowranga Giri, and the Chowringee area of Kolkata is said to have been named after him
MOTHER HOUSE: The Mother House is the Head Quarter of the Missionaries of Charity that brings thousands of visitors from all around the world.
After breakfast in the morning, we will visit Dakhineshwar and Belur Math by boat cruise on river Hooghly to visit RAMAKRISHNAN MISSION.
DAKSHINESWAR TEMPLE: built-in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni a grand devotee of Maa Kali is at the eastern bank of River Hooghly. The deity is known as Bhavtarini another aspect of Maa Kali and a form of Adi Shakti.
BELUR MATH: Belur Math, headquarter of Ramkrishna Math and Ramkrishna Mission both founded by Swami Vivekananda.
Also, we will be visiting the popular Jain Temple. Afternoon is free for shopping on your own. Later return back to the hotel for an overnight stay in Kolkata.
Early in the morning after tea, we will leave for a full day excursion to GANGASAGAR where the Ganga drains into the sea.
GANGASAGAR or SAGAR ISLAND is an island in the Ganges delta, lying on the continental shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 kms (54 nautical miles) south of Kolkata. The island is large with an area of 224.3 kms. Gangasagar is a charming tourist destination, which attracts both pilgrims and adventure lovers. Located on an island in the Sundarbans,
Gangasagar offers the charms of an un-spoilt beach on the estuary of the river Ganges. Gangasagar offers acres of silver sand and clear blue sky, and the calm sea for visitors who would like to spend their weekend in tranquillity.
It is considered to be of great religious significant and explore the KAPILESHWAR MUNI ASHRAM – it is one Punya Tirtha among five Punya Dhams. Each year on Makar Sankranti (mid-January), large number of devotees from all over the nation, congregate at Gangasagar for a sacred dip at the convergence of the river Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. After the sacred dip, the pilgrims offer Puja at the Kapil Muni Temple or Ashram.
Later return back to Kolkata in the evening. On arrival in Kolkata, check in at the hotel and enjoy an overnight stay.
The morning is free for packing and personal activities. Later check out from the hotel & get transferred to the Kolkata Airport/Howrah Railway station to catch the flight for board the train for onward destination.
