Nagaland, one of Northeast India’s most fascinating states, is gradually gaining popularity among travelers. This tour serves as an apt introduction to Nagaland, bringing forth authentic encounters with the locals and enabling the traveler to witness both the traditional and modern elements of life in the Naga Hills.
Arrive at Dimapur airport/railway Station, transfer to the hotel. After brief fresh n up visit the DIMAPUR TOWNSHIP. Later visit the RUINS OF KACHARI KINGDOM which is famous for its Monoliths. (12 Km from the city) Stay overnight at the hotel in Dimapur.
Dimapur is the oldest city in Nagaland. Dimapur holds the status of being the ancient capital of Kachari tribe who ruled the state before 13th century. The glory of the Kachari kingdom appears on the ruins spread around Dimapur. The ruins provide evidences of the Kachari civilization reflecting a touch of Hinduism who were pre-dominantly non-Aryans.
After having breakfast, transfer to Kohima (the capital of Nagaland). Check in to your Hotel and later take a sightseeing tour of Kohima visiting STATE MUSEUM situated at Bayani Hill – this will give you a deep knowledge of different feature of Naga’s Culture and the CEMETERY OF SECOND WORLD WAR located in the middle of Kohima. Also visit KOHIMA ZOO. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Khonoma is a picturesque village situated 20km from the capital Kohima. You can enjoy the view of DENSE FORESTS, BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS AND MAJESTIC MOUNTAINS. The village is famous for its conservational ventures and has good connectivity with the outside world. You can visit the paddy terraces where 20 types of rice are grown. By preserving a large part of community forests, the village has set a good example. After enjoying the sightseeing at Khonoma, return back for an overnight stay at Kohima.
Transfer to Tuophema from Kohima & have an amazing experience at TUOPHEMA
Tuophema is just 38 km drive from Kohima. Touphema is a tourist village built in collaboration with the Nagaland tourism department. Here you get to stay in Traditional Naga Huts and enjoy the typical Naga way of life. This village has a community kitchen for the guests and they serve some really delectable traditional Naga dishes for the guests with traditionally brewed rice beer. Enjoy the panoramic views from the village as you take casual walks along the lanes of this magnificent village.
Overnight stay in Tuophema
Today morning after breakfast we will be driven to Mokokchung. It is the home town of Ao Tribe and one of the fastest-growing cities in Nagaland. On arrival drive to the Mopungchuket village and check-in at a small and cosy lodge constructed and maintained by the youth of MOPUNGCHUKET village. Later we go for a walking tour in the village and witness the beautifully carved time pillar, sacred lake, old churches, log drums and Dzukis. Enroute visit Lotha tribes village – LONGSA VILLAGE. Have leisurely breakfast and drive towards Mon, Mon is the major centre of KONYAKS TRIBE. You may see here the tattooed face of the local tribe wearing their traditional dresses and feathered gears on head. Konyaks tribes are accomplished craftsmen and expert artisans. Visit their outstanding wood carving, Guns, Headgears, Daos (Machetes) and Gunpowder etc. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Today, we visit few more villages of Konyak headhunters today and see their amazing lifestyle and meet the ANGH (The Konyak King). After breakfast we will go to visit SHANKYU VILLAGE and LONGWA VILLAGE (2 hrs). In Shankyu Village you will see wooden monuments and stone monoliths in the Wangs(Angh) house(rulers of the village).
After visiting Shankyu Village our next stop is Longwa Village (42km), the biggest village in the Mon district – the abode of Konyak Naga tribes. This village is located on the International Border of India and Myanmar (Burma). An amazing fact about the village is that the one part of its chief’s (Angh) house located in India and another part in Myanmar.
You will see traditional thatched roof houses and houses decorated with skulls of animals here. After visiting Longwa Village we will return to our hotel and rest for the night.
After breakfast drive to Dibrugarh town located in Assam. Enroute we will visit the historical city SIBSAGAR and watch the ancient heritage of Assam. We stop at few important monuments constructed during Ahom dynasty during 1500- 1700 centaury. We start with Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Shiva Doul and Sivasagar Tank. Shiva Doul – is a 17th century Shiva temple famous for its tallest dome. Said to be one of tallest Shiva temple in Asia and Sivasagar Tank (Bor Pukhri) is a vast tank constructed during Ahom dynasty in the 17th century. Reach Dibrugarh in the evening and check-in at a hotel and call it a day.
After breakfast check out from the hotel and transfer to Dibrugarh airport/railway station for your onward journey.
