Ooty or Udagamandalam (2240 metres) is a popular hill station in Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu state of India. Around 21 kilometres south-east of Ooty is Coonoor (1850 metres). Kotagiri (1950 metres) is to the east of Ooty and to the north-east of Coonoor. Essentially, these three places form a triangle. You can visit this area completely while stationing yourself in Ooty.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railways (popularly known as the Ooty Toy Train) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a very popular tourist trail and thronged by domestic vacationers who want to get some respite from the summer heat of tropical India.
Arrival at Coimbatore and proceed to Ooty by road. On arrival at Ooty, check in to the hotel. Nestled in the blue hills of Nilgiri and also named as the “Queen of Hill Stations” in South India, Ooty boasts of endless natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. After some rest, make a visit to the BOTANICAL GARDEN, DODABETTA PEAK, VALLEY VIEW LAKE, WILSON FISH FARM AND ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH. Dodabetta Peak, the highest mountain (2,637 m) in the entire Nilgiri Range is a popular tourist spot, which offers clear vistas of the surroundings. Visit the St. Stephen’s Church, one of Ooty’s oldest and most beautiful churches. Rest of the day is for leisure. During your leisure time, you can opt to visit the Emerald Lake, Shooting Point, rose Garden, Murugan Temple and Mudumalai National Park (leisure activities are not included in the package). Stay overnight in Ooty.
*You have an option of travelling in a heritage toy train (Nilgiri Mountain Railway) from Mettupalayam railway station (35 Kms from Coimbatore) to Ooty. The train journey time between Mettupalayam and Ooty is around 4h 45m and covers a distance of around 43 km. Cab will reach Ooty by road.
Have a refreshing breakfast and start your journey towards Coonoor by NILGIRI HERITAGE TOY TRAIN (optional). Cab will reach by road and take you for Coonoor Sightseeing. On reaching Coonoor, visit SIM’S PARK, DOLPHIN’S NOSE VIEW POINT, LAMB’S ROCK AND LADY CANNING’S SEAT. Sim’s Park is a beautiful garden and popular tourist attraction, with rare and exotic species of flora. Dolphin’s Nose View Point (1,550 m) is a huge rock offering spectacular vistas of Catherine Falls and the surrounding hills. Trek up to Lamb’s Rock and treat your eyes to enchanting views of vast tea/coffee estates and Coimbatore Plains from the top and also visit Lady Canning’s Seat. It is a beautiful viewpoint, which was once the favourite spot of Lady Charlotte Canning (Lord Canning’s wife). Return to Ooty in the evening and get a good night’s rest.
After breakfast, travel to KOTAGIRI. You will visit CATHERINE FALLS, KODANAD VIEW POINT AND RANGASWAMY PEAK AND PILLAR. Witness the gorgeous Catherine Falls falling from the mighty mountains and known to be the Nilgiri Mountain’s second-highest waterfalls, as well as one of Ooty’s best. Enjoy breathtaking views of the misty valleys from Kodanad View Point and head further to Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar.
Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar (1,794 m) is a sacred hill that holds the shrine of Lord Rangaswamy and also offers stunning views of the surroundings. After a wonderful sightseeing tour, Return to hotel and stay overnight in Ooty
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive on the way to Coimbatore airport/railway station for your onward journey back home.
